when Sal Assante Sr. started a landscape design and installation business in Morris County, New Jersey. His award winning, high quality work was known to his customers and competition to be both aesthetically pleasing and structurally sound. "Assante's Gardens of the World" as it came to be known, was synonymous with the very best in residential and commercial landscape design and maintenance. Building on this landscaping legacy, Sal Sr. trained his three sons in the art of landscape design and the techniques he had developed.

1988 saw the beginnings of Gardens of the World's retail garden center and wholesale contractor supply. From a one room garage, the garden center store concept expanded first opening in Andover and then in Mine Hill. Now, Gardens of the World is one of the largest and most extensive plant material inventories in northwest New Jersey. In fact, many area landscapers, designers and architects shop at our garden centers.

In 2007 we launched a redesign of our website and expanded the information available online. Through all the changes and expansions, we have maintained our business as both family owned and operated.
