Description

Looking for a low-maintenance, ornamental shrub to enhance your garden or landscape design? Streib's Findling Cotoneaster (Cotoneaster apiculatus 'Streib's Findling') is your answer! This compact and hardy shrub is renowned for its striking features and adaptability, making it an excellent choice for gardeners of all skill levels.

Growing Zones:

Streib's Findling Cotoneaster thrives in USDA Hardiness Zones 4 to 7, making it suitable for a wide range of regions across North America. This versatile plant can withstand both cold winters and hot summers, making it an ideal addition to your garden.

Key Features:

  1. Compact and Neat Growth: Streib's Findling Cotoneaster typically reaches a height of 2 to 3 feet with a similar spread, forming a dense, rounded shape. This makes it perfect for low hedges, ground cover, or as an accent plant in your garden.

  2. Year-Round Beauty: The oval, glossy, dark green leaves of this cotoneaster provide an attractive backdrop for its profuse, small pink flowers that bloom in late spring. Following the blooms, bright red berries appear in late summer and last into the winter, adding a splash of color to your landscape.

  3. Low Maintenance: This cotoneaster is incredibly easy to care for. It's drought-tolerant once established and resistant to most pests and diseases, so you can enjoy its beauty without constant upkeep.

Care Tips:

  • Planting: Choose a well-draining location with full sun to partial shade. Streib's Findling Cotoneaster adapts to a variety of soil types but thrives in slightly acidic to slightly alkaline soils.

  • Watering: While it's drought-tolerant, consistent watering is essential during the first year after planting. Once established, you can reduce the frequency of watering.

  • Pruning: Light pruning can be done to maintain its shape, but it's not necessary. Trim back any dead or damaged branches in the early spring to encourage new growth.

  • Fertilizing: Fertilize in early spring with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer to promote healthy growth and berry production.

  • Berries: The vibrant red berries are a favorite among birds, so if you want to keep them for ornamental purposes, consider using netting or pruning the shrub to control berry production.
