Description

The Prostrate Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis 'Prostratus') is a versatile and aromatic herb that adds both beauty and flavor to your garden. With its low, spreading growth habit and fragrant foliage, this evergreen plant is a popular choice for herb gardens, ground covers, and even as an ornamental addition to your landscape. In this product, we provide you with everything you need to grow and care for your Prostrate Rosemary.

Growing Zones: Prostrate Rosemary is well-suited for USDA hardiness zones 7-10. It thrives in regions with mild winters and prefers full sun exposure for optimal growth. In colder climates, consider planting it in a container that can be brought indoors during the winter.

Basic Care Tips:

1. Sunlight: Prostrate Rosemary loves sunlight, so make sure to plant it in a location that receives at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight daily. This ensures lush foliage and better flavor.

2. Soil and Drainage: Well-draining soil is essential for this herb. If your soil tends to retain water, consider adding organic matter or planting in raised beds. Aim for a slightly acidic to neutral pH level.

3. Watering: Water your Prostrate Rosemary moderately. Allow the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot, so be mindful of the moisture levels.

4. Pruning: To maintain a compact and prostrate shape, regular pruning is necessary. Trim back leggy growth and harvest the fragrant leaves for culinary use.

5. Fertilizing: Fertilize your Prostrate Rosemary sparingly, using a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in the spring. Excessive fertilizer can lead to excessive growth at the expense of flavor.

6. Pests and Diseases: Prostrate Rosemary is generally resistant to most pests and diseases. However, keep an eye out for aphids and spider mites. Neem oil or insecticidal soap can help manage these issues.

7. Culinary Uses: The aromatic foliage of Prostrate Rosemary is perfect for enhancing your culinary creations. Use the fresh leaves in a variety of dishes, including roasted meats, grilled vegetables, and marinades. The distinct flavor and aroma of rosemary will elevate your recipes.

8. Landscape Beauty: Besides its culinary uses, Prostrate Rosemary is an attractive ground cover or trailing plant for garden borders and rock gardens. Its evergreen foliage and delicate blue flowers add visual interest to your landscape year-round.
