How are heights measured?

Tree and Shrub heights are measured from the top of the root ball or soil, measuring only the above ground portion of your tree or shrub.

Blue Grama Grass, scientifically known as Bouteloua gracilis, is a versatile and stunning ornamental grass that adds a touch of natural beauty to your landscape. Its striking blue-green foliage and distinctive seed heads make it a favorite among gardeners and landscapers alike. This native North American grass is easy to care for and thrives in a range of growing zones, making it an excellent choice for any garden.

Growing Zones: Blue Grama Grass is a hardy perennial grass that can adapt to a variety of growing conditions. It is well-suited for USDA Hardiness Zones 3-10, making it a great choice for gardens across a wide geographical range. Whether you're in a chilly northern climate or a sunny southern locale, Blue Grama Grass can thrive with the right care.

Basic Care Tips:

  1. Sunlight: Blue Grama Grass loves sunlight. Ensure it receives at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight daily. Placing it in a sunny spot will result in vibrant, healthy growth.

  2. Soil: This grass is not picky about soil type and can tolerate a range of soil conditions. However, it prefers well-draining soil. Amending the soil with organic matter can help improve drainage.

  3. Watering: Once established, Blue Grama Grass is quite drought-tolerant. Water deeply and infrequently, allowing the soil to dry between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot, so be cautious not to water excessively.

  4. Pruning: In late winter or early spring, cut back the dead or browned foliage to encourage new growth. Blue Grama Grass may benefit from an annual pruning to maintain its shape and appearance.

  5. Fertilization: Blue Grama Grass typically doesn't require heavy fertilization. A light application of a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in the spring can help promote growth.

  6. Pest and Disease Resistance: Blue Grama Grass is generally resistant to pests and diseases, making it a low-maintenance addition to your garden.

  7. Landscape Uses: Use Blue Grama Grass in a variety of landscape settings, including meadows, xeriscapes, and native gardens. It works well as a ground cover, in borders, or as an accent plant.

  8. Winter Interest: This grass maintains its ornamental value throughout the winter, with unique seed heads that add visual interest to your garden even in the colder months.
