Creek Sedge (Carex amphibola) is a versatile and visually appealing ornamental grass that can add a touch of elegance to your garden or landscape. Its graceful arching foliage and adaptability make it a great choice for a variety of outdoor settings.

Growing Zones: Creek Sedge is well-suited to a range of growing zones. It thrives in USDA hardiness zones 5-9, making it a perfect choice for many regions across the United States. It's known for its ability to tolerate both full sun and partial shade, offering flexibility in planting locations.

Basic Care Tips:

  1. Location and Soil: Choose a well-drained location for your Creek Sedge. It prefers moist, rich soil but can tolerate a variety of soil types, including clay. Partial shade or full sun locations are ideal, but it can adapt to different light conditions.

  2. Planting: When planting Creek Sedge, ensure that the root ball is level with the surrounding soil. Space the plants about 12-18 inches apart to allow them room to grow and spread.

  3. Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during the establishment period. Creek Sedge thrives in damp conditions, but it can also tolerate periods of drought once established.

  4. Pruning: Creek Sedge requires minimal pruning. In early spring, you can trim back any damaged or dead foliage to encourage new growth. However, it's not necessary to prune regularly.

  5. Mulching: Applying a layer of mulch around the base of the plants can help retain moisture and suppress weeds. This is especially beneficial during the hot summer months.

  6. Fertilization: Creek Sedge typically doesn't require heavy fertilization. A balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring can provide the necessary nutrients for healthy growth.

  7. Pest and Disease Control: This grass is relatively resistant to pests and diseases. However, keep an eye out for any signs of aphids, slugs, or snails, and address them promptly if they become an issue.
